Guu has become the most well know izakaya in vancouver
and due it is popularity
it has opened about four location
including this new addition of guu garden

it seemed to promote little sanctuary within the city feel

in the window near our seat
there was tiny garden
that created zen like mode

like any other Guu, they had their regular menu
and the special of the day
although they share the same name,
except for the few most popular item
each location has their unique theme of menu
so you can choose which one you would like to go
depending on your cravings

Drink Special
for some odd reason
Guu decided to launch their own beer
it is pale ale and is larger in size than any other bottled bear

Today's special
but nothing appealed to us,
so we ordered from their regular menu

this is their regular drink menu
they have small selection of beer, sake, and various cocktails
and on bottom right, you can pick and mix whatever you feel like
which I think is a great idea!

this is their regular menu
although they seem cheap
the portions are tiny
so it is not really cheap but on expensive side if I were to choose

ramune (Japanese cream soda like drink) + peach liquor
yum!!

I think this was Salmon Ruibe
it was like salmon tataki
and in the glass
the Guuud Ale!

the pons (sauce) was sweet and salty
and salmon was just lightly seared
and was just delicious with onions
(but beware of your breath)

Grilled Saba Shima Sushi
Mackerel sushi
first ever mackerel sushi i eve had
was soooooooooooooooooooo fishy
that it put me away from any mackerel sushi
anywhere
but I was feeling adventurous
and Guu has never disappointed me
and it did not
in fact
it put me to awe
is seared and fermented perfectly
and it is not really a sushi but not really grilled
so it is fresh but smoky
plus they mixed the ginger that accompanies the sushi
in the rice so you can eat them gracefully and without weird after taste
although it still did have that fishiness of mackerel a bit

Pumpkin Koroke
or in Guu garden it is known as Kabocha koroke
which is boiled egg wrapped around creamed pumpkin
and deep fried with bread crumbs
the sweet mayo on top blends everything together nicely

Chicken Karage
which is deep fried chicken!!
it just emptied out our beer bottle in split second

Agedashi Mozzarella
I was mortified when this came out
I was expecting something like cheese sticks
but it was like cheese in tempura batter
soaked in broth
I was worried this would taste oily
but it was quite nice and flavourful

the cheese was just very stretchy and cheesy
and the broth was nicely flavoured that we finished the entire bowl

It was very delicious dinner
except we had so much trouble finding it
it was located on third floor of unfinished building
so we were at the right place but just couldnt find it

at the end, we called them and the server came out and directed us in
but becaues it is so hard to find,
you can enjoy more quieter environment compared to other Guu

there is a small garden in the front
which will be more beautiful when summer comes =]
