This was not my first visit to this chop shop looking
but absolutely fabulous sandwich shop located in secluded gastown area.
Yet, it was as good as the first time around!!
It is run like a cafeteria!
There is this huge menu on the right of entrance,
and you line up to make your order,
walk along the long counter to order anything else you want
and pay for all the things you picked out!
There are three regular menu sandwich: Porchetta, Meatball, and Grilled Cheese
If it is your first visit, the recommendation is try the Porchetta!!
You can't say you have been to Meat & Bread if you have not tried their Porchetta!
Meatball is also good but I would not recommend grilled cheese since others are so much better in comparison.
They have a special sandwich menu that seems to change every week or so,
but no fears, all the special I have had so far was as exceptionally good as other items on their menu
Soup and Salad changes weekly bases as well!
This is what appears to be the best piece of pork ever!!
As you anxiously wait in line to make your order,
site of them slicing this pork cause involuntary salivation...
The ciabatta bread is not actually made from the restaurant
because seems to come in plastic bag.
But no matter, its still good!!!!!!!!!!
Today, we ordered both apple parsnip soup and orzo salad, Porchetta, Guiness Lamb (special), and their version of coke
The apple parsnip soup was bit odd...
It was nice and clean tasting yet seems bit runny and bit bland.
I really would not recommend their soup in generally because
I think they lack flavour, especially next to their such great tasting sandwich.
Orzo salad was actually quite good!
very light!
the pasta was cooked very well and seasoned perfectly
It was nice bite when the meat from the sandwich got too heavy
They only carry Fentiman's which is botanically brewed carbonated drink made in UK.
Curiosity Cola is actually quite good!
more flavoured than the regular coca cola I drink
This is the today's special Guiness Lamb
It is roasted lamb with carrots and green hummus
with house mustard in the sandwich and on the side
There is a good portion of meat in there but
perfectly balanced!
I think Meat & Bread serves best lamb ever cooked
but its only my opinion....
Lightly seasoned to bring out full flavour of the ingredients
all nicely packed inside chewy ciabatta.
This is the Porchetta!!
One thing you must order and Meat and Bread!
It seems like nothing much..
Just pieces of pork and some basil pesto
BUT!!!
It is the well balance of chewy meat to fat ratio with occasional crispy skin of the meat
that brings the great flavour of this sandwich
Overall,
I would go back to this place, again and again!
I am craving it as I am writing this post!!!
It is the best sandwich you will ever taste in Vancouver EVER!!!!!
