Motomachi Shokudo - Modern twist on traditional ramen

Motomachi Shokudo was my favourite ramen place
before Santouka showed up
unlike other places
they promote more of a fushion style ramen
using fresh organic ingredients that are prepared fresh
This was my first visit in years
and a lot of things have changed since then

on the podium,
there is copy of their menu
so you can take a look before you actually walk into the restaurant

they have quite a few selection of ramen vase to choose from
and couple appetizers or side dish that could accompany a meal

at the back there are some extra toppings that you can add to your ramen
and the drink menu
one topping  I really like to recommend
is the egg!!
which is really really good
I have never tasted such as creamy and smooth tasting soft boiled egg anywhere else
so if your ramen does not come with it already
don't hesitate to add it
it is totally worth $1.50
(maybe not if you don't like eggs)

their menu is actually like a small book and is located along with the pepper and shi-chi-mi (optional spice for you ramen)
so don't ask for the menu
and place it back here once your done

the menu is actually like a photo book
and has pictures of the restaurant

it has quite a few pages
and is quite interesting
so it is nice way to kill some time
if you become too anxious to wait quietly for your food

kitchen is half visible
so you don't have to worry about the cleanliness
and the bowl on the counter top is a really nice touch
and good approximation of the most popular menu
because different ramen gets different bowl

I am going to skip the explaination
because the menu picture does very good job describing the dish.
only complaint my company had was that portion was too small
which can only mean one thing
it was very delicious
although I found it bit oily (bit different from being greasy) and strong in mayo flavour
(I don't like mayo just an FYI)

Very clean and fresh feeling
soup base does lack the depth that is found in some other places
but it was still good in sense that
it will be quite suitable for newly entering ramen world
for the aroma and the intensity of the pork bone base

I really did not taste the difference between their regular miso and this one
except for the fact that soup base was darker in colour
but it is suppose to be good for digestion and has anti-aging effect
so why not
the soup base very flavourful
strong in miso flavour  bit creamier than shio
bit nutty bit wooden

the noodles became thinner than before
and slightly undercooked when served
(the way I liked them)
they are very chewy

their cha shu which is barbecued pork
is rich in flavour
very tender, smoky
but bit salty
which was quite a surprise for me
because their soup base was not
(which I also find it odd for most ramen place seems to have salty soup base)

overall
I really enjoy this place when I am craving more lighter ramen
the variety of fresh toppings and the great soft boiled egg is what brings me to this place
it is a nice twist to traditional ramen
and it is worth visiting if you like to trying something new
