located near by metrotown
Saffron Indian Cuisine is modern but rustic restaurant
during lunch hour
they run buffet for $12.99 per person
which is pretty good deal because you get to try all the different curry
for about a price of one!
plus unlimited naan bread!!

basic table setting
the tools you need to conquer to buffet table

just the warm side of the buffet table which has about 7 types of curry
2 types of rice
and tandoori chicken

there is also a salad bar
which was quite small and had basic sauces
and few dessert dishes

plain naan
served with melted butter on top
baked fresh
so it is very nice and warm
chewy so goes well with the curry
or you can just eat it by itself
it still tastes good

my first plate
tandoori chicken was okay
bit dry for my liking and I would like it to be more flavoured
cauliflower was way too overcooked and quite mushy
it has lost all its texture not very pleasant to eat
but the potato was good!!
greek salad was fresh and crisp

this was my boyfriend's plate
he has a tendency of digging at one type of curry
his favourite is the butter chicken
but the butter chicken curry here was bit odd
too tangy and runny
not creamy enough for us
peas pulao rice itself was good
but the peas got in the way when eaten with the curry
so from then we just stuck to plain jasmine rice

i think it was my boyfriend's second or third plate
i am no so sure
but this was his favourite here
indian cheese and peas curry
the cheese has texture between chewy and creamy
and all the spices of the curry complement the cheese quite well

this is my second and last plate
i do not remember names of all the curry
i was able to bring all but one (the butter chicken)
although i dont remember all the names
from the 12 o'clock position
-mushroom curry: so so although i did like the texture of the mushroom the peppers ruined it
-beef curry:t he flavour was rich although consistency of the curry was bit runny, i personally did not enjoy overly soft beef
-chicken curry: lighter version of beef but i do like the texture and taste of chicken better because its more tender and chewy
-zucchini curry: personally i hate overcooked zucchini so it was not my favourite
-peas and cheese  curry: as mentioned above
-chic pea curry: i don't remember..

Mango Shrikhand
it is like thick mango juice
yet not enough mango flavour
i thought it was just sweet..
and nothing much

gulub juman
i was clueless what this is
but it taste like doughnut that has soaked up a lot of syrup
it is actually drenched in syrup and it pours out into you mouth as you bite into it

Kheer
its like rice pudding but more watery
like milk with rice
bland and odd
try some if you are feeling adventurous
but don't bring a bowlful like me
or else you might be wasting a lot of food

overall
saffron indian cuisine is okay
nice place to drop by during lunch hour if you are up for some indian food
one of the server was very friendly
although i was offended by this guy chucking the naan bread basket at us
but i am assuming he is a cook and is not being paid enough to serve

everything is clean and price is decent
so give it a try if you are in the neighbourhood
